2022 April was around the time when I was done with my master thesis at Fraunhofer IIS and even though the results produced were excellent I could not convert it into the fulltime opportunity due to some other personal life reasons. I was quite unhappy and disappointed with myself as it is till today my dream place to work at. Well it was a bad time and the idea of solo hiking in Austria popped up in my mind.
I did some initial research and in next some days planned my itinerary to Austria, and booked my stay for 6 days in Landeck which also become my base point for all the hike I did in Austria. Landeck is located in Tirol which is also one of the best states in Austria for hiking.
Now after booking reaching my Airbnb, I did some grocery shopping and then went to have the usual meal of döner from a Turkish shop. The owner asked me about my purpose I told him my completion of my degree and therefore I want to hike. He gave a free can of cola which is quite rare in Europe, you never get free things.
After sleeping in my Airbnb in the evening I left from Landeck to Vorarlberg. A adjacent state sharing its boundaries with Germany and Switzerland. After reaching Vorarlberg, I realized it was raining a lot and I commenced my hike to reach the spüllersee, I had 2 options spüllersee and Formarinsee. I decide for The Spüllersee. I started my hike when I saw an elderly couple coming down and it was raining and soon I found myself in a natural setting where there was a river flowing right next to me. At this point I had some dryfruits and resumed my hike again.
This hike was one the most enthralling hikes so far as it also consisted a lot of flaura and fauna. In Around next 3 hours I reached a section of the mountain where I realized that it was only me in the entire mountain. Now because of this I was a bit scared but as this fear started clouding me also the views become incredibly nice. I started seeing more cows and more little cascades. But this was a bit strenuous hike for me because I was not physically fit and this was my first physical outdoor expedition in last 4 years. I also realised that there was no one on this hike except me during this time.
Because of this I was already feeling a bit tired. I twas when suddenly cows stared at me and I thought they are thinking who are you bro what you doing up here. Soo after reaching the spüller see I had my lunch at the see, and the see was during this time getting engulfed by the clouds.i had to go to the bus stop and the clouds were rapidly engiulfing the see and the trail, the visibility was getting lower and lower and it was when I finally sighed the relief after reaching the bus stop. It was very cold so I went to pee in the washroom. On getting out I saw the bus approaching me and the bus driver was very nice to talk and let me know that he used to be in a different profession and he started driving the bus very recently. We had a nice conversation andhe told me it was the last bus of the day and the season of hiking just started a few dys ago. then he dropped me back to wald am Arlberg.
The hike was pretty much straight forward without any difficulty any one can do it. Just take care of the weather and timins of bus if you are dependent on public transport.
The hike length is around 3 hours back and forth if you take a bus from spüller see back to Arlberg
In the evening I took the bus back to Arlberg.
